Calendar – Intercollegiate Debate, Professional Events, and Educational Outreach
2022-23 (Version August 22)
• Many events are not confirmed as colleges and universities adjust schedules from online to in-person or in the other direction. Some are listed as online and others in-person but both are tentative, depending on health and safety issues in Claremont and events sites. Please be aware of updates.
• Color-coded events include the following formats: BP (British Parliamentary), SJD (Social Justice Debates), L/D (Lafayette Debates), PDP (Public Debate Program, proprietary middle school high school debate outreach format), IHL (International Humanitarian Law).
• All events are in English, except for select competitions with Spanish language divisions.
• Conferences featuring paper, panel, multimedia, and other competitions, if available, are also included here as PUBLIC/PRO (public and professional events).
• All members of the Debate Union are required to attend and support debate outreach, including the PDP outreach championships, scheduled for Fall 2022 and Spring 2023.
Office Hours: John Meany holds office hours for Speech 61 A/B enrolled students and members of the Debate Union on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 12:30-2 PM, and by appointment. Students may attend in-person, Bayer 21, CMC or online (the Zoom link is included in the syllabus). He also holds office PDP office hours for students, tweeters, coaches, and parents on Mondays, 5:00-7:00 PM. The first hour is reserved for students and the second hour is reserved for all others. He will answer questions or discuss issues related to any debate format during hours but focus on PDP issues and material. The Zoom link is:
